On some summer mornings the tree-cloaked hills seem to melt and float in sunlight as if they've come uprooted from the earth. When you pay attention to such things and really start to notice the details of what sunlight can do, and hills and trees, you run the risk of becoming a perpetual tourist on your own planet, gawking ,mouth agape, enraptured by the wonder of it all. Some days it is dangerous to let me drive because I'm paying so much attention to the clouds and the bark on the trees and the play of sunlight on the leaves. I used to be a mere stargazer, but now I've become an earth-gazer as well. |
