Making galaxies is hard. (Even spelling "galaxies" is a pain. My fingers want to type "glazies," or some such nonsense.) I've tried to render a bunch of galaxies in Photoshop and yet I have never come close to the delicate elegance of the real thing. The universe, as revealed through Hubble, puts all artists to shame. We should just clean our brushes and have a yard sale.

After I finished this piece I caught Carl Sagan's movie Contact on TV. I was struck by the similarities between this image and Jodie Foster's cosmic experience, and I wondered if I had been subconsciously influenced. The lady in the bubble isn't Jodie, though I sure wish it was. Were. I like Jodie a lot.
